It’s 2:00 o’clock on the afternoon of a hot Thursday afternoon . Am drowsy from the heavy meal I just had. Heck the rest of my classmates are. You would have entered the class and thought it was a sleeping camp. To make matters more intense, a chemistry lesson was about to begin. I know what you are thinking, I was being a big baby. But our chemistry teacher was this short petite man who most of the time cracked some weird jokes (which I always laughed at) , partial bullied and terrified us. But somehow I still ended up loving chemistry so much, I don’t know how that chemistry came out. This is besides the point.
While he was teaching about chemical symbols, equations and balancing them he kept say over and over, “It’s the small things that matter the most.” Not being fully conscious of what he was saying we kept on trying to balance the equations since they seemed like Greek at the time, eventually we got it simply by taking into account the little things about the elements and all their properties with success.
Thank God for him even though I have never really applied that knowledge from those equations in life but by those words, he taught me so much. Those words did not apply to chemistry only but to life as a whole.
According to Waceke Nduati-Omanga of centonomy , it takes a million one bob parts to make a million shillings. Million shillings to get your dream projects up and running. A million shillings to get your piece of land to build your dream home one. A million shillings to get the car you have been drooling over. A million shillings to finally go for that holiday. Lord knows you deserve and need it. But you wouldn’t get there if you don’t start with saving that small portion despite the little that you earn with no excuses. That much gathers more.
Oh I know how it feels when at the beginning of the year- so eager for a fresh start, a chance to do it all over again, bigger and better- What was first on your resolution list; working out and being healthy has dropped off your radar. Don’t know how time rushed bye but it’s said it’s never too late to try again and reminding myself Rome was not built in a day I get back on the wagon. Just 5 sit-ups today, 10 sit-ups tomorrow and so forth will eventually lead me to my goal: keeping fit and healthy. Am on day 6 and done 35 sit-ups so far. Never give up because that little gathers much.
Or it’s just the simple act of writing down what you want, your dreams without the thought of how it will happen. You are halfway done.
The little comment that uplifts someone who is just about to give up.
The smile that makes a strangers day because frankly their day started on a bad not.
The pat on the back at someone who has gotten out of their comfort zone and achieved something.
The much needed hug given to someone who does not need words but just the human touch to remind them of who they are. Helping someone who even didn’t ask for it but they needed it. It’s the little things that matter the most.
“At times our own light goes out and is rekindled by a spark from another person. Each one of us has cause to think with deep gratitude of those who have lighted the flame within us, ” Albert Schweizer. Never underestimate the power of a small act.
