Poetry Books Recommendations For The Upcoming Kenyan Readathon in September

Can you tell how excited I am? 2 days to the #kenyanreadathon and I’m your resident hypeman. I didn’t take part in last year’s as I was deep in a life slump. Now we wanna make it up to it and damn well.

(There are) Many Fragile Things
(Like) Tales of Murugi
(And) My Six Little Fears.
(But We Know) The Cages We Built
(Become Unhinged) When We Speak
( For We are) Irresistible

And since its #wordplayWednesday here are some poetry books to check out if you want to add some poetry to your Kenyan readathon to be read list. These are just a tip of the iceberg given the vast amount of poets and published Kenyan books on poetry in the market.

For those now verse with the Kenyan Readathon every September, as dubbed by the founder Lexa Wendy since 2020, is a month dedicated to reading literature from Kenya. This is to help promote authors, elevate our literacy levels and educate others about literature from home. This year’s readathon marks it’s fourth edition and below are the weekly prompts for this edition if you will be participating.

Meanwhile, the authors shown have more works other than these:

Kendi Karimi has a ‘whole library’ of books to her name 🤭from poetry, thriller to non-fiction. I’m very much curious about her latest ‘HerStory Unleashed’ and Murdering Romance.

Cynthia Abdallah has two other books, a poetry collection and short shorties anthology.

Sammy Wanjala has published a story as part of an anthology collection on COVID and love.

Larry Liza has three other books including a kids books and a non fiction on the effects of COVID 19.

Rafinki, an upcoming literary organization based in Nairobi, Kenya who provide a platform for both performing poets and writers has a decent collection of poetry books they have published under their belt.

Chris Mukasa, the editor of ‘The Power of Words’ is working on a other volume if am not wrong. I stand to be corrected.

So your pick is endless. You can get most of these from Nuria The Honest Store and can use my discount code EMPRESSEXPRESS when you shop online from http://www.nuriakenya.com. You’ll get 7% off.

Thank me later. 😘
